Out and About

Town Trips and Shopping
The Damant Lodge “bus” takes residents into town three days a week and help is given in the shops, banks and so on.

Some of the residents hand their shopping list in at the office and just catch the bus so that they can go for an outing and enjoy a cup of coffee in one of Port Alfred’s numerous coffee shops.

At the Lodge

Health and Wellbeing

The hairdressing salon in the lodge is open three days a week and pedicures are done, by appointment, on Mondays.

Medicines are managed and distributed from the duty station and staff also book doctor’s appointments, order prescription medicines from the pharmacy, take residents to the doctor or dentist, call the physiotherapist when needed and provide wheelchairs and walkers to our residents.

Entertainment and Recreation

There are lots of activities on offer at Damant Lodge: exercise classes, knitting club, Bingo, movie afternoons and guest speakers in the main lounge.

The library boasts a great selection of books (including tapes for the blind and also large print books), jigsaw puzzles and board games such as chess and scrabble. The magazine rack opposite the hair salon is also well-used.

The sun lounge and ‘chatter box’ gazebo in the garden adjacent to the library are popular spots for residents to enjoy some company.

Numerous very talented people in Port Alfred kindly entertain our residents. They include dance troupes (Scottish Country dancing, belly dancing and line dancing), singing groups, musicians, choral school groups, theatrical groups, Gospel singers, comedians, school choirs, and ventriloquists.

The municipality, some of the service organisations and shops in Port Alfred donate flowers and chocolates for Valentine’s Day, Hot Cross Buns, Christmas gifts, wool for knitting club, Easter Eggs and seedlings/plants for Spring day.
